7 tips on how to stay safe whilst driving in bad weather conditions

We may be nearing the end of February and spring is just around the corner, however it doesn’t seem like it and the cold weather just doesn’t seem to be budging.

To make things worse, it’s snowing again and it looks like it’s going to get worse as the week goes on.

Regardless of which part of the Country you’re in, you are more than likely to be affected by the ‘Beast from the East’ and ‘Storm Emma.’ In fact, the Met Office has put alert warnings across the country and it is claimed that some parts of the UK are set to feel colder than the Artic Cirlce.

That’s why although you hope for the best, you should always be prepared for the worst. Here we have compiled some of the most important tips and tricks to keep us safe on the road.

7 TIPS TO STAY SAFE ON THE ROADS

1. Your Vehicle – Ensure all of your lights are working and your brakes are working properly!

2. Tyres – Have you checked your tyre condition or trade depth recently?

3. Make sure you have stocked up on brake fluid, battery level and screen wash before a journey.

4. Be Prepared – Before you set out on your journey, ensure you have a blanket, coat, warm clothes and food and water, just incase you do break down.

5. Mobile Phone – although it;s illegal to use your phone when driving, it is essential that you have one on you (fully charged) when driving in bad conditions.

6. Driving – Always drive slower in the snow. Chances of skidding are much higher and stopping distance will increase.

7. Time – Stay away of your surroundings when driving in bad weather conditions and always be prepared for delays and allow extra time for journeys.

In the event of a breakdown, or if the worse does occur, then pull over when it is safe to do so and put on your hazard lights before phoning for help.

The general advice is – only take the journey if it is absolutely neccesary. Or, there’s always the option to leave your car at home and give us a call instead?

SOUTH WILTSHIRE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2017
JUNE 23RD, 2017

Being recognised for the effort our growing team have put into our business is a great feeling. And last night this was achieved at the South Wiltshire Business of the Year Awards.

As a growing Salisbury taxi company we understand the need for local business support and congratulate Your Mortgage Expert for their win in our category. We look forward to challenging again next time for another category as we continue to develop our business.

From the beginning we have tried to serve the local communities around Salisbury and Wiltshire and will continue to do so. Follow us on our Facebook and Twitter pages to be kept up to date as we continue to make taxi journeys easier for our customers.

Check out all the other category winners and finalists on the SWBOYA official website here

All The Sevens goes contactless

Taking a taxi in Salisbury no longer means making sure you’ve got money on you or stopping for cash. This is because All the Sevens taxi company now use contactless payment with credit and debit cards.

All the Sevens will be the first cab company in Salisbury to operate on this basis and it means more flexibility for their customers. Twenty of their drivers will operate contactless payment in the first instance.

Taxi journeys are often prolonged because they need to take a detour to the cash point, this will no longer be a problem with contactless payment.

In October last year, London cabbies went contactless following a directive from the Mayor of London. The Mayor wanted to make the people of London safer by ensuring that they could get a cab at any time, even if they didn’t have cash on them.

Now in Salisbury the same rule applies.

All the Sevens taxi company have always been forward thinking as a business and pride themselves in customer friendliness and providing a premier service, this is just another example of them putting their customers first.

Gary Taylor, owner of All the Sevens, says “We care about our customers and want to save them the hassle of getting to cash machines, we pride ourselves on our approach to customers, flexible, efficient and friendly”

All The Sevens going places

ARTIST Paul Hawthorne has brought the walls of Salisbury taxi firm All the Sevens to life with an eye-catching mural of a taxi cab set against the backdrop of Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge.

Taxi firm boss Gary Taylor said he wanted to give the office a new look so he decided to commission Mr Hawthorn, who has already provided artwork for Danny’s Bar in Salt Lane and has contributed to many exhibitions.

“I just wanted something that would really stand out because the firm is going really well at the moment and I felt we ought to capture that feel good factor,” said Mr Taylor.

The 18-month-old business, which has 20 drivers on its books, has grown considerably and is now having its busiest time since its inception.

The firm has adopted a new hi-tech booking system, i-cabbie, which will streamline bookings and dispatch taxis quicker. It has number and address recognition and as soon as the customer has made the booking they will receive a text to confirm despatch and the vehicle is GPS tracked.

It is all a far cry from the early days when Mr Taylor drove the cabs, manned the phones and ran the business himself.

He has also launched an airport transfer service alongside All the Sevens called Salisbury Airport Cars. This service specialises in executive cars and streamlined efficiency in getting clients to and from the airport.

He said: “We continue to improve our service continuously, we recently relaunched our website to raise our company profile as well as being an active presence on the social media networks. Our customers are important to us and we believe in the personal approach. The new systems approach will help us to maintain the service that we promise.”
